History

The line was built by the London, Chatham and Dover Railway (LCDR). The London Chatham and Dover Railway (LCDR was a railway company in south-eastern England from 1859 until the 1923 grouping which united it with other companies The train station was opened in 1863 and was originally known as Lower Knight's Hill train station. It took this name from the nearby hill, but was renamed West Dulwich to avoid confusion with another Knight's Hill just a mile south, next to West Norwood railway station. West Norwood railway station is in the London Borough of Lambeth in West Norwood, south London.
