Early years

Ronnie James Dio was born Ronald James Padavona, an only child to an Italian family. The' Italian people' are a Southern European Ethnic group located primarily in Italy, Switzerland, France and by virtue of a wide-ranging The family moved to Cortland, New York early in his life. As of the 2000 census the city had a population of 18740 His parents raised him in the Roman Catholic church, an experience he ultimately found unsatisfactory. In 1960 Dio graduated from the Cortland City School and was inducted to the Cortland City School Hall of Fame in 2004.
