Richard George Adams (born May 9, 1920) is an English novelist who is best known as the writer of three novels featuring animal characters, in particular Watership Down and to a lesser extent Shardik and The Plague Dogs. Life and work

Adams was born in Newbury, Berkshire. Newbury is a Civil parish and the principal Town in the west of the County of Berkshire in England.
