A personal union is a relationship of two or more entities that are considered separate, sovereign states, which, through established law, share the same person as their respective head of state. A state is a political association with effective Sovereignty over a geographic Area and representing a Population. Head of state is the generic term for the individual or collective office that serves as the chief public representative of a Monarchic or Republican Nation-state It is not to be confused with a federation, which internationally is considered as a single state.
