The Permian Basin is a sedimentary basin largely contained in the western part of the U.S. state of Texas. The term sedimentary basin is used to refer to any geographical feature exhibiting Subsidence and consequent infilling by sedimentation The United States of America —commonly referred to as the Texas ( is a state geographically located in the South Central United States and is also known as the Lone Star State. The Delaware Basin in West Texas and southern New Mexico is famous for holding large oil fields and for exposing a fossilized reef Marfa is a city located in the high desert of far West Texas in the Southwestern United States. The Permian Basin extends beneath an area approximately 250 miles wide and 300 miles long.
The Permian Basin gives its name to a large oil and natural gas producing area, part of the Mid-Continent Oil Producing Area. Petroleum ( L petroleum, from Greek πετρέλαιον, lit Natural gas is a Gaseous Fossil fuel consisting primarily of Methane but including significant quantities of Ethane, Propane, Total production for that region up to the beginning of 1993 was over 14. 9 billion barrels. The towns of Midland and Odessa serve as the headquarters for oil production activities in the basin.
