Construction began in 1869. Thomas Fuller ( March 8, 1823 &ndash September 28, 1898) was a Canadian Architect. Leopold Eidlitz ( March 23 1823, Prague, Bohemia - 1908 New York New York) was a prominent New York architect best known for his Henry Hobson Richardson ( September 29, 1838 &ndash April 27, 1886) was a prominent American Architect of the 19th Isaac Gale Perry (1822-1904 was a prolific New York State Architect and Builder. Lieutenant Governor William Dorsheimer dismissed Fuller in favor of Eidlitz and Richardson. [4] According to one source, it "was Richardson who dominated the final outcome of the grand building, which evolved into his distinguished Romanesque style" (which came to be known as Richardsonian Romanesque). Stephen Grover Cleveland (March 18 1837 June 24 1908 was both the twenty-second and twenty-fourth President of the United States. He hired Perry to complete the project. [6]
