MIX 94. WLRW (945 FM) is a Radio station broadcasting a Hot Adult Contemporary format 5 (official callsign 6MIX) is a commercial music radio station owned by Austereo in Perth, Western Australia. The Austereo Radio Network is a national commercial radio network in Australia. Perth is the capital and largest city of the Australian state of Western Australia.
The station originally began as 6KY, beginning broadcasting on October 23, 1941 and would eventually end up at the frequency 1206 kHz. Despite sharing the 'Mix' callsign, it has no relation to the Mix stations in other Australian cities. It is targeted to 25-54 year olds, and is clearly Perth's highest rating radio station, consistently experiencing an audience share unheard of in other major radio markets. It's been Perth's number one station since December 1999. In September 2005, Mix 94. 5 changed its logo from the red mix in the blue ball to the one seen on the right on this page.
In March 2007 Mix 94. 5 and sister station 92. 9 moved from premises at 283 Rokeby Road, Subiaco, Western Australia to a new purpose built broadcast centre [seen above] at 450 Roberts Road, Subiaco. Subiaco is an inner western suburb of Perth, Western Australia, situated to the north of Kings Park.
The switch between Mix 94. 5's Rokeby Road studios and the new purpose built broadcast centre in Roberts Road took place at 2pm on Monday March 5. Ian Blackley was the first person to broadcast from the new $8 million digital fitout. The first song he played was "Friday on My Mind" by The Easybeats which was #43 in the "Top 294 Songs For Grown Ups" that Mix 94. 5 was playing across the long weekend.
