Mary Youngblood is a Native American flutist in Northern California. Native American flute has achieved some measure of fame for its distinctive sound used in a variety of New Age and World music recordings Northern California is the northern portion of the US state of California. She is half Aleut, and half Seminole. The Aleuts ( self-denomination from Aleut language allíthuh 'community' older or regional self-denomination Unangax̂, Unangan or The Seminole are a Native American people originally of Florida and now residing in Florida and Oklahoma. Her music has become very highly respected, and she has been awarded three Native American Music Awards, being the first woman to win "Flutist of the Year," which she won in both 1999 and 2000, as well as winning "Best Female Artist" in 2000. The Native American Music Awards commonly known as NAMA, or the Nammys, are an annual awards program given out since 1998 for outstanding musical achievments She has also won a Grammy Award in the Best Native American Music Album category for the album Beneath the Raven Moon. The Grammy Awards (originally called the Gramophone Awards)—or Grammys —are presented annually by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences In 2007, she won her second Grammy Award for Best Native American Music Album for Dance With The Wind.
