Marian University is a four-year Roman Catholic college in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, formerly known as Marian College of Fond du Lac. Fond du Lac is a city in Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, United States. It was founded in 1936 by the Sisters of Saint Agnes. History

Marian College opened on September 8, 1936. Events 70 - Roman forces under Titus sack Jerusalem. 1264 - The Statute of Kalisz Year 1936 ( MCMXXXVI) was a Leap year starting on Wednesday (link will display the full calendar of the Gregorian calendar. It had seventeen full-time and 25 part-time students, and eight faculty. The sisters decided to start the college after the Wisconsin Department of Instruction decided that nuns were not allowed to teach in public schools while wearing their habit. Wisconsin ( or wɪˈskɑnsɨn (French Ouisconsin) is one of the fifty United States of America, located in the north central part of the United States [1]

Marian became accredited to grant a bachelor’s degrees in elementary education in 1941. The first graduating class in August 1941 had eight nun graduates. The first lay graduates graduated in 1942. Marian had 86 full-time and 145 part-time students in 1950, who attended classes in a convent next to St. Agnes Hospital. St Agnes Hospital in Baltimore Maryland is a full service Teaching hospital located at 900 S Marian was founded as a women’s college, but the superintendent of Fond du Lac schools attended art and music classes with his wife in 1940. Increasing enrollment caused the college to move to its current 100 acres campus in the mid 1960s. The college became coeducational in 1970. [1]

The school became accredited by the North Central Association for a Master's of Art program in 1987. The North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA, also referred to as North Central, is one of six regional accreditation organizations recognized by the The college's first doctorate program started in 2002. On May 1, 2008, Marian College of Fond du Lac officially changed their name to Marian University to reflect an expansion of their programs and classes and to position the institution for growth [2]. Today the college is accredited by the North Central Association, International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education, National League for Nursing, Council on Social Work Education, National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. Demographics

The college had 3040 traditional undergraduate students in the 2006-2007 school year, and 1226 were full-time. 71% of students are women. 33% of students live on campus. [3]

There were 88 full-time and 188 adjunct faculty in Fall 2006.

Marian celebrated its 70th anniversary in Fall 2006 and welcomed its new President, Josefina Castillo Baltodano to the academic community. [3]

Sports

The college's first sport was women's volleyball. The college has the following teams: NCAA Division III men’s basketball, baseball, golf, hockey, soccer and tennis, and women’s basketball, golf, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball [1]
