Overview

The tour commenced on September 7 and concluded on September 17, 1968. Events 1251 BC - A Solar eclipse on this date might mark the birth of legendary Heracles at Thebes Greece. Events 1176 - The Battle of Myriokephalon is fought 1462 - The Battle of Świecino (or Battle of Żarnowiec Year 1968 ( MCMLXVIII) was a Leap year starting on Monday (link will display full calendar of the Gregorian calendar. For these early shows, the band were billed as the "Yardbirds" or "New Yardbirds".

Led Zeppelin's debut tour was an outstanding contracural commitment left over from The Yardbirds. The Yardbirds are an English rock band noted for starting the careers of three of rock's most famous Guitarists Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck The stage act for their debut tour was based loosely on the set list used by The Yardbirds in 1968 before their breakup, which was fleshed out with a variety of covers. [1]

According to singer Robert Plant:

We made no money on the first tour. Robert Anthony Plant (born 20 August 1948 West Bromwich, England) is an English rock singer and songwriter famous for his membership in the Nothing at all. Jimmy [Page] put in every penny that he'd gotten from the Yardbirds and that wasn't much. Until Peter Grant took them over, they didn't make the money they should have made. Peter Grant, ( 5 April 1935 &ndash 21 November 1995) was an English Music manager. So we made the album and took off on a tour with a road crew of one. [2]

Jimmy Page recalled of this tour:

We realised we were working under false pretences, the thing had gone quickly beyond where The Yardbirds had left off. James Patrick Page, OBE (born 9 January 1944 is an English Guitarist, Composer and record producer We all agreed there was no point in retaining the New Yardbirds tag so when we got back from Scandinavia we decided to change the name [of the band]. It was a fresh beginning for us all. [1]
