In 1976, Kappa Psi admitted females into the fraternity, and now the vast majority of the member chapters are co-ed. Those chapters that remain all-male have done so because of the strong activity of other professional fraternities and sororities on campus who attract those interested in alternative bases of membership, such as co-ed or all-female.

Kappa Psi consists of 72 collegiate and 52 graduate chapters organized into 9 regional provinces.

Kappa Psi holds its national convention biennially. The 2007 Convention site was Boston, Massachusetts. The host chapters were Mu and Boston Graduate. Mu also celebrated its 100th anniversary. Other convention sites include San Diego, Myrtle Beach, Orlando, Williamsburg, Kalispell MT, Detroit, New Orleans, Kansas City, Philadelphia (in 1976), Scottsdale AZ (100th Anniversary), Jackson Hole WY, Fort Lauderdale, Marco Island FL, South Padre Island TX, and North Falmouth MA. Until 2007, the largest attendance was the 48th Convention (1997) in Myrtle Beach (440 registrants). The 53rd GCC in Boston broke the record with 441 in attendance. Myrtle Beach was also the host city in 1983.
The 54th Grand Council Convention is scheduled for Tampa, Florida, in August of 2009.
In Boston, at the 53rd Grand Council Convention 2007, the following brothers were elected to International Office: Grand Regent - Lawrence "LB" Brown; Grand Vice Regent - E. Brody Jr. ; and Collegiate Member-at-Large - Brian "Bubba" MacDonald. The Fraternity's Executive Director is Dr. Scott Long and its Immediate Past Grand Regent is David E. Maszkiewicz.

Maszkiewicz was elected Grand Regent of the fraternity at the 52nd Grand Council Convention, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania ( often colloquially referred to as PA (its abbreviation by natives and Northeasterners is a state located in the Northeastern Also elected to national office were Grand Vice Regent Sean Higgins, Grand Counselor Rebecca Fahrenbruch, Grand Historian Claudio Faria, Grand Ritualist Andrew Frasco, Graduate Member-at-Large Lawrence Brown, and Collegiate Member-at-Large Kali Jernigan. The Fraternity's Executive Director is Dr. Scott Long and its Immediate Past Grand Regent is Dr. Anthony Palmieri.
