History

Fort Benning is named for Brigadier General Henry L. Benning, a Confederate army general and a native of Columbus, Georgia. The post is home to the United States Army Infantry School as well as the Army's airborne (parachuting) school. The United States Army Infantry School is located in Fort Benning, Georgia.
