Career history

Peñalosa turned professional in 1982. In 1983, he captured the Vacant IBF Light Flyweight Title with a technical knockout win over Satoshi Shingaki. He defended the title three times before vacating the belt in 1986 when he moved up to challenge WBA Flyweight Title holder Hilario Zapata. Hilario Zapata (born August 19, 1958) is a former boxer who was a two time world Jr Peñalosa lost the bout, but was able to capture the IBF Flyweight Title the following year with a knockout win over Hi Sup Shin. He lost the belt in his first defense to Chang Ho Choi. In 1989, he would get another shot at the IBF Flyweight Title against Dave McAuley, but lost a split decision. Dave McAuley, born June 15 1961 in Larne, Northern Ireland is a former professional boxer. He retired in 1995.
