Synopsis

The series, which was loosely based on creator and executive producers Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith's own blended family^[2], revolved around Robert James (Duane Martin) a divorced TV entertainment reporter with a young son, Bobby (Khamani Griffin), and his fiancée, Tia Jewel (Elise Neal), a kindergarten teacher who helped him through the breakup of his first marriage. Khamani Griffin (born August 1, 1998, in Oakland California) is an American Child actor. Elise Neal (born March 14, 1966) is an American Film and Television actress. Robert shares custody of his son with his ex-wife Neesee (LisaRaye McCoy), with whom he shares a tenuously friendly relationship for the sake of their son. Robert also finds himself in a difficult situation, attempting to maintain the peace, however uneasy, between his ex-wife and his fiancée.

Friends of the couple included Dirk Black (Tony Rock), Robert's single best friend and producer, and Tia's best friend and fellow teacher Jonelle Abrahams (Terri J. Vaughn). Tony Rock (born Antonio Rock on June 30, 1972) is an American Actor and stand-up comic. Terri J Vaughn (born October 16, 1969) is an American film and television Actress.

In season three, Tia breaks off her engagement to Robert, leaving a newly single Robert faced with a situation wherein Neesee must move in with him and Bobby temporarily after her apartment building is destroyed by fire. In addition to Tia, two other supporting characters, Jonelle and Turtle (James Vincent), were written out of the series. In season four, Laivan Greene joined the cast as Courtney, Dirk's long lost daughter. Laivan Greene ( February 17 1992) is an American Actress, Singer and Dancer.

In June 2005, Elise Neal (Tia) announced that she would not be returning for a third season of the series due to a reported salary dispute with the network. Cancellation

The show was slated to be canceled in May 2005 but Black Voices reported that Will Smith convinced network officials that the show would make changes for the better. The show also was on the UPN cancellation list for the WB merger but was given a last minute reprieve. Half and Half was then canceled to make room for the show in May 2006.

In the finale, Nesee asks Robert for sperm, but he does not agree with it. They, then, have to go to a wedding together. Because they are stuck in a hotel and very hungry, they decided to crash a wedding downstairs of their hotel. There, they are mistaken as artists, Jay-Z and Beyonce. Compelled by this assumption, the two sings a song together while laughing, returns to their room. As Nesee and Robert reach their room, they feel a connection and start to kiss.
