The race was won by Michael Schumacher, Fernando Alonso in second, and Juan Pablo Montoya in third. Michael Schumacher (German pronunciation;) (born January 3, 1969, in Hürth-Hermülheim, Germany) is a former Formula Fernando Alonso Díaz (born July 29, 1981 in Oviedo, Spain) is a Spanish Formula One racing driver and a two-time Juan Pablo Montoya Roldán (born September 20, 1975, in Bogotá, Colombia) is a Race car driver in NASCAR for Chip At first lap, Super Aguri's Yuji Ide collided with Christijan Albers, which put Albers into a series of rolls and he ended up upside down. (born 21 January 1975 in Saitama Saitama) is a Japanese racing driver who graduated from 2005 Formula Nippon to Formula One Christijan Albers ( (born April 16, 1979 in Eindhoven) is a Dutch racing driver Ide was reprimanded by stewards and warned over future conduct. He retired from the race 23 laps later.

Michael Schumacher appeared to have a clear lead coming up to the first set of pit stops although things started to go wrong after that. He developed graining in his tyres, slowing him down considerably. Alonso gained considerably on Schumacher, but the Imola circuit, which is renowned for being difficult to overtake on, lived up to its reputation and Alonso couldn't get around. Alonso then decided to come into the pits, but Schumacher came in the next lap. Alonso's out lap was not good enough to put himself in front of Schumacher, so their positions remained the same. Alonso chased hard, but a mistake by running wide into a corner left Schumacher a clear path for the last few laps to win. It was Schumacher's seventh win at Imola - he had previously won the San Marino Grand Prix in 1994, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2004. The 1994 San Marino Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race held on May 1 1994 at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola, Italy. Race

On the first lap, at the Tamburello curve, Alonso passed Barrichello. Like the last Grand Prix, this one started with an accident, this time in the Villeneuve curve, Yuji Ide had hit Christijan Albers and made him roll, almost 4 rotations 360º each. Fortunately the Dutchman was unhurt. Ide was able to continue after replacing his damaged front wing, although he later retired. This incident was part of the “evidence” that made the FIA to take Ide’s Superlicence. The Safety Car was employed for two laps.

The race continued normally for some laps, when Trulli entered the pits to retire following a steering problem, and Liuzzi had a problem and spun in the Variante Alta, a corner which had had a revision in the past few months and had been enlarged.

The race was uneventful (at least major events did not occur) until the first pit stops began. Barrichello started, pitting in lap 14. His stop lasted 15 seconds, as he filled 156 L, enough to finish the race. Michael Schumacher went into pits on lap 20, giving Alonso the lead. Unfortunately the gap between them was not big enough for Alonso to remain in the lead. Lap 30 saw Button’s second stop. The refueller nozzle got stuck and did not come out. Jenson Button, thinking it was off, rejoined the race, not knowing what was going on. He lost valuable seconds while his pit crew corrected the error.

By the half of the race, Ferrari began experiencing problems, specifically tyre degradation. Eight laps were enough for Alonso to bring down the 10 second difference between him and Schumacher. The duel that took place during the 2005 San Marino Grand Prix was to be repeated, this time with Schumacher in the lead. The 2005 San Marino Grand Prix was a Formula One race held from April 22 to April 24 2005 at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari.

Lap 41 saw Alonso pit for a second time, ahead of Schumacher. Michael Schumacher pitted some laps later, and the gap was big enough to leave the pits on first position. David Coulthard had a problem and retired on lap 47.

Michael Schumacher secured his 85th victory overall, the first of the season. Alonso, on the other hand, finished second in the fourth race, making a first-or-second finishing streak, and scored 36 points out of 40.
